Yes that is true.

However, according to what I've been told by a bee farmer from NZ who may soon become related, the honey is mixied with other honey and can be pasturised before canning or bottling.

This bloke said Australian honey is also pasturised but me being me, I suspect 'pasturisation' is done to kill off some/most of the goodness on the basis that it has to be passturised to get rid of 'harmfull backteria.'

The stuff straight from the bush is another matter but its impossible to get due to export requriements.

This bloke also said some Australian honeys also has good medicinal properties. i did not get to ask which ones as the subject went off in another direction but I suspect it would Tee Tree honey as Tee Tree oil is regarded highly by the alternative heath people.

Manuka honey... The honey that promises a great deal, but in actual fact delivers very little except the actions of fraudsters. Look at the facts and decide for yourselves.

New Zealand produces 1,700 tons of manuka honey each year.
And yet 10,000 tons of manuka honey are sold each year worldwide.(?)

Prices range from a few pounds to well over £100 per jar and regardless of the price paid, there are no guarantees that we are buying the genuine article. Think before you part with your money.... Rolling Eyes

I had occasion to talk face to face with a bee farmer from New Zealand about 6 months ago, His son met a daughter of a member of my family.

I asked him about the Manuka honey and he said that to get the benfits you have to get the unpasturised stuff which apparently is not easy to get.

He went on to say that our (aus) Tea Tree honey is just as good as the Manuka honey, but again, it follows that one would need to get the unpasturised stuff to get the benfits.

Cant help but wonder if the purpose of pasturing everything these days has more to do with weakening the populations health, by killing off the goodness more than anything else.

I have never heard of anyone getting sick from eating raw honey, raw milk, raw cream and on farm meat kills. I grew up on a dairy farm and there were no controls on anything then. Mind you, we did get the back door trots from time to time.
