What do others here use? Best one for about £100? Is second hand off ebay ok? Never had one so not sure what to look out for

Hi mitch,

i've had a Megahome for about 4 years . no probs.
I would recommend these .I think J.D.Harris have them for the best price i have seen.

From memory i think they are about £ 170 . If it were me i would hang on until i could afford a new one,I think they have a 3 year warranty.

Thank you Lopsum, sounds as if those with the skills or time could have a good distiller without paying much.
After burning out a couple of the cheapest distillers offered on ebay (not complaining, they did the job and outlasted the warranty time), I found a used, dented Megahome, several years old. It went on longer and was better built than the cheap ones so I bought a brand new one when it finally expired, as I had had plenty of time to save up.
It is wonderful! The safety features mean I can leave home with confidence when it is working. I had a plastic jug for years, it worked well, no need for glass, but its a lovely luxury. Even though the electric bill is higher the water still costs much less than bottled.
I do not buy their pricey charcoal filters though. I had some filter charcoal, wrapped a little in a coffee filter and placed it in the drip spout. It lasts about 4 weeks and gets rid of volatile organic compounds. The water tastes good.

I would have to disagree in some part. These distillers are fine as long as you don't use them more than a few times a week. I distill approx 9-15 ltrs a day and there are few distillers than can cope with even this quantity of usage. My distillers have no seam joining the outer paneling. They cost me far less than £100 each, though I do not think that they are available any longer. There is also the problem of the motor seizing up in distillers costing around £125-£175. I know because I've bought 3 of them from various sources during the past two years and at least one of them fell apart completely from the outer join stated above, including the base, it was useless and most certainly not worth the extortionate amount being asked for them. My advice, think hard before buying any distiller if you need to distill a lot of water. Smile

I can only comment on my own experience .Have used a Megahome for about 4 years now ,I use about 4 lts daily (one complete fill)

never had a problem & still going strong ,as far as I remember they have a 3 year warrenty.

Only criticism is design of glass jug.

Also had these problems with very cheap models,we but rarely make more than 8 litres, or 2 cycles in a day and the megahome seems able for it. They must be throughly cooled between cycles.
