Phone calls Empty Phone calls

Post by Willy Fri Feb 09, 2018 11:08 am

Morning. My brother is staying with us temporarily after giving up his house 200 miles away while he finds a new place. Never before have we had a phone call on the land line chasing him for debt but about a week after he turned up Moorcroft are on the phone for him. The only people who he has given the number to is the local health centre and they passed it on to a couple of addiction clinics.
Question is, how the hell did they find him?!
Thanks x

Willy

Local health centres are private companies and many are into the revenue stream of data harvesting and selling, if the health centre gave his number to a couple of addiction clinics without his consent they are in breach of the Data Protection Act and article 8 of the HRA.

Addiction centres are often linked to an NHS trust and these also harvest personal data and sell it on, and in all cases you must check the terms and conditions of their agreements and opt out as this opt out clause will prevent your personal data sales, if not you must write to them and tell them not to sell or pass on your data.

Sometimes it is the obvious, have you got the same surname? have they done a quick search of the telephone directories and shotgunned everyone with the same surname, or have they linked the names with family history and worked it through the property records.

I think they got it from the funeral section of the paper. Collecting data from death notices would be one way.
