END of parking fines? New Data Protection Act - May 2018.

Post by sirus0 on Fri Dec 01, 2017 11:08 am

Just came across this article:

gdpr-end-parking-fines

The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will come into force on 25 May 2018. The legislation gives individuals more control over how their data is used. One potential consequence of this could be an end to the way that private firms issue parking fines. Currently, the DVLA makes money from selling people’s data to private companies, which then issue fines. The problem with the current system is that we, the owners of that data, haven’t permitted the DVLA to do this.

Will this mean that we could use GDRP to stop DC companies??

What are your thoughts?

It certainly is a nice sentiment but not too sure it will be exactly like that. No doubt these scum parking firms will find a way around it to carry on as before.

Don't know if you remember the 2007 declaration by ECHR over police issue NIP under sect 172 RTA Act 1988 in relation to peoples' right to silence being ignored/abused? The court sided with the police/UK MOJ on the issue & stated registered keepers MUST grass themselves up or else.

Just a thought.

Debating the point

According to the DVLA, consent is one of six legal justifications for the valid use of personal data. It remains to be seen how this will be interpreted under the GDPR. Meanwhile, Sir Greg Knight is not letting the issue of parking fines drop. His private member’s bill aimed at dealing with the excesses of parking fines will be debated in the House of Commons in the New Year, as he pushes for a fairer balance between landowners’ and drivers’ rights.

Do you think the GDPR will mean and end to the DVLA selling drivers’ data to private parking firms? Or will the organisation simply find a way to circumvent the new regulations?

Maybe we should send emails to Sir Greg Knight to stand up for us?!

Definitely Councils are cashing in too much money from us!! ://

It's all down to their assumption that we have gave them consent.
Where is a material evidence that the ppl of this land gave the consent to be governed, TAX-ed, FINE-ed, poisoned, schooled, brainwashed, sent to wars???!!!

These are NOT criminal offences and do not involve the police or criminal activities, so they shouldn't be profiting from unlawfully providing private companies with our data without our consent.
