Pursuit now by Insurance Company! Empty Pursuit now by Insurance Company!

Post by steve chapman Sun Dec 10, 2017 11:29 am

Hi Folks,
It seems like everyone and his wife wants a piece of me.

  Banks.
  DCA's.
  Credit Cards.
  HMRC.
We understand that they exist, and I suppose we all expect it from these vampires.

But now I have fallen foul of yet another entity....the insurance company! Dah Dah Daaaaah!!

I have been self employed these past six years. I'm a window cleaner by the way. During that time I have been covered by public liability insurance.
I have never made an actual claim in all that time--although about four years ago I did make an enquiry regarding a possible claim, but due to the fact that the claim would have paid out less than my excess I never pursued it. Guess what? That enquiry caused my next premium to be increased considerably!

So, we are looking at a situation whereby I have shelled out hundreds of pounds over the years, and have never received a penny in return.

I will be retiring soon (February) and due to the fact that money is very tight just now I had to prioritise this month.
Amongst other things, I decided not to pay the £75.00 insurance premium this month--to do so would have tipped me into unwarranted overdraft territory with my bank.

Within a week I have received no less than two aggressive letters from them giving me until the 22 of this month to pay, and if I don't I will be liable to pay the full £300.00 plus. (It is a credit agreement where I pay in monthly instalments)

My first thought is to ignore them completely--let 'em whistle, cheeky sods.

What d'you reckon on my chances of success here? Do they have the right to send in the heavy mob?

I'll be away in a few months anyway.

Thanks in advance for any comments or advice on this.
  Steve.

Take insurance out elsewhere.

Tell them you believe that asking for the full amount in their contract terms is unfair under the Unfair Consumer Contract Terms Regulations 1999 and that if they pursue you you'll complain to the Financial Ombudsman Service.

Also, they should never have increased your premiums in the way they have when you didn't make a claim. I'd complain to them about it and if you don't get anywhere complain to the Insurance Ombudsman about it.

Brilliant Tiggy.
Thanks a whole bunch--that's exactly how I figured it--It's just good to have it confirmed by someone more expert/experienced than me.
