Protest Section Empty Protest Section

Post by Jinxer Tue Jul 25, 2017 10:36 pm

I think we need to have a protest section, where anyone who joins it agrees to joining the protest of the week. Just imagine the impact of say 200,000 people (that's if we could attract that many) could have if one week we refused to shop at Tesco the next week no maccy d's and so on. To start with there wouldn't be much impact but as more and more people join the stronger the impact would get.

To this day I continue to choose not to buy petrol from BP because of what they did to the gulf of mexico. Sorry, correction, I have on two occasions brought about 10 - 20 litres of petrol from them when i was caught short.

a Total Bocott of Nestle and all it's products.
This means the convenient chocolaste bars,
But principles have to hurt a bit.
Also Max Igan ( like him or hate him )
Has repeatedly called for a Day of inaction every 15th of every month.
Like you suggest, if enough people join , they may begin to notice that a lot of people are not using credit cards or Banks 1 day a month.
Only cash and Only for essentials.

That's a good one only using cash, we need a good list writing up with something different on different days and all pledge to stick to it. Might take a few years before enough join to make it work, but everything starts from a single raindrop and then develops into a tidal wave.

Hey Jinxer,

It is a good idea but, I am not sure it should be called 'protest' though. I feel this could potentially be seen as political activity like NGO's and, broadly speaking whilst we are 'none governmental', we are certainly not an 'organisation' and, I feel getting boxed off in that way may come with some undesirable side effects. We are just a group of like minded folk who are trying to assist each other, I feel the less unintended 'red tape/oversight' we could accidently stumble into is best avoided if we can.

I do think it is a good idea though and, is potentially workable if we possibly approach it from a different angle such as no presumed enrolment into something like 'where anyone who joins it agrees to joining the protest of the week' (apologies for selective quote) and, perhaps something like 'This is How I Hit them where it hurts', 'Corporations gone bad' (or similar) then people can give their own perspective/information on a corporation and state themselves that they will be withdrawing their money, energy etc from any mentioned corporations on a weekly, monthly etc basis.

Apart from the corporations mentioned above I have added KFC to my lifetime boycott list due to an advert they recently released showing a dancing chicken which is obviously going to be slaughtered for food,

The Whole Chicken

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KykM1kwdaOA

Whilst I am not arguing for animal rights, vegan or vegetarianism I try to have some respect for the animal being slaughtered with the little meat I do eat. For these reasons, I personally find their approach to chasing sales a bit morally repugnant so I will not be purchasing from them or supporting them in anyway ever again.

That advert plays upon Racial stereotyping too.

Chicken being cheap is often identified as an african american staple.

Protest Section Empty Re: Protest Section

I say no, and for various reasons, by joining such a group you are asking people to consent and this site is against consenting, so what are we consenting to? in reality we dont know until it is suggested or it happens.

Some while ago on the other site I organised a little activity which was to get several people together and use the RTS system to post parcels back to the DCA's which were problematic, I asked several people to act as coordinators and they all agreed, and they coordinated smaller groups of people. I did the research and each individual sent a plain parcel containing many things which were just below the maximum weight limit and they were all posted on the same day so they would all arrive together to the multiple recipients, and it worked very well for several reasons.

1] Everyone consented and agreed with the action.
2] Everyone was a willing participant.
3] It showed the DCA's that as recipients they were vulnerable.
4] It boosted the moral of those involved and those on the site after the fact when it was revealed.

Did it work?

In many ways, yes it did, in other ways it didn't. To understand this fully we have to understand business, and in the simplest terms your total income minus your overheads leaves your profit, to work out your tax you have to work out your profit and what banding it puts you into.
By sending so many parcels at such a weight meant DCA's had to pay out a lot of money and this increased their overheads and reduced their profits which meant the DCA's wrote it off against tax, but it still tied up a lot of employees in a futile exercise and showed them they could be hit in the pocket. With reduced profits it meant they paid less tax so it hit the treasury's pocket and reduced their income.

It worked as all the coordinators I appointed could be trusted, and all the groups they appointed could also be trusted, and everything was done on the site by PM only, and this secrecy was key to a surprise mass posting of heavy parcels. By doing something on a regular basis means they get wise to what is being done and you would have to post this openly on the site, and only one infiltrator is all it takes to undo a lot of good work and time and effort by so many people.
