AA Zero Tolerance Empty AA Zero Tolerance

Post by eargoggles Sun Jul 15, 2018 1:50 pm

Last night we put petrol into our diesel van by mistake and drove for about 1/2 mile before it conked out ,we phoned the AA who we have cover with and they said it would cost £220.to drain the tank flush something in the engine and put a couple of pints of diesel in the tank, just enough to get us to the nearest filling station, it only took the AA bloke !/2 an hour to do the job before it was up and running again ,we asked why it cost so much and their answer was "Zero Tolerance " . i`d like to know if we could claim most of that back because they are clearly ripping you off when at your most vulnerable.

I would check their T & Cs ,although I suspect they will have covered their backsides.
With any other type of breakdown I believe they only charge for parts / fuel, the labour should be covered by your membership subscription.
We moved from the AA to green flag sometime ago, having been in the AA for about 20 years, One year we had two breakdowns in a van ,resulting in the guys stuck for 3 hours on each occasion at the side of a motorway before the AA showed up.

Green Flag is considerably cheaper.

It might have been cheaper to phone a local garage!

Its cheaper to buy a reliable vehicle which won't break down or accept the wrong fuel.

Knowing most people lack realistic or practical alternatives might also be a reason they charge like wounded bulls to.

As I get older these days I find myself worrying about making exactly this and other mistakes so I tend to carry a couple of milk crates of spares and a bag of tools in the car.

My favourite fear is dropping my car keys down a storm water grid in car a park or a petrol shop.
