Fed for free (mostly)!

Post by Lopsum on Tue May 09, 2017 3:05 am

yesterday my neighbor caught me passing by , her son had been fishing for trout so she passed one on to us Cool
So i went down to the allotment and picked some wild garlic and chives and took it home.
We pan fried the fish whole (till the meat fell from the bones which is easier than filleting) with a good handful of wild garlic leaves and chopped chives and a dash white pepper, then we made a sauce for the fish and veggies using the juice from the pan, some milk, extra chives and wild garlic and some cheese (mostly Brie with a bit of mature chedder!) and pepper. It was served with boiled new tatties, steamed broccoli and cauliflower with a few pan fried mushrooms and it was the best meal ive had in a while. The fish was awesome and really works with the light cheese sauce and subtle garlic flavor and chives.

Will be asking to go with them next time , free fresh fish has got my interest .

In some areas American crayfish are invading rivers and you can fish for them for free (no license) and all you need is a basket of some type and a little meat as bait.

Yes, I was going to say that many of our rivers and streams are infested by American Crayfish. A friend caught more than 20 large ones in a small shallow stream near Sheffield recently...he enjoyed cooking and eating them on the bank. Odd, the gov's department of F&F deny that they even existed in the stream...lol
