Just wondered if anyone knew wather the police have to supply a copy of a warrent when searching a property. They search my property back in november, and I`m begining to think it was unlawful,I called them on the 6th of december asking for a copy they said it was not protocol to give out a copy which smells of bull to me but not certain, they claim they rang me on december 13th although im not sure about that either.

Have you tried the court ? A judge or Magistrate are needed to issue a warrant ,so the court must have a record if one was actually issued.

As Dave says, they need a warrant for most things, to obtain a warrant they must convince a magistrate that they have reasonable suspicion for it to be issued in the first place.
Two normal protocols apply and that is that they have warrant hearings at a magistrates court before the hearings begin at 10.00am and generally they get whichever magistrate is there early and present the evidence to him/her and a warrant is issued or denied and often they make multiple warrant hearings in one go.
For out of hours hearings they can go to a magistrates homes armed with their evidence ns an out of hours warrant may or may not be issued.

In court they record it on the warrant entries record and for out of hours warrants the magistrate ussies it and it was recorded in a book and the magistrate could phone the court the next working day and report that a warrant had been issued. Now they tend to have their own electronic hotlines directly to court and when an out of hours warrant is issued the magistrate copies it and e mails it directly to court and keeps a paper copy.

Po-lice only ever get an original copy and as you are entitled to a true copy of the warrant it is down to them to make a TRUE COPY of the original warrant and this is given to you, although you only ever get a copy of the warrant, you are entitled to see the original warrant so you know the po-lice have it, and that your copy is a true copy of the original warrant.
