Clicking on topics

Post by handle on Wed Jun 14, 2017 12:27 pm

Why is it that when I click on a latest topic, an advertising page comes up in a different window, instead of the topic I am trying to view?

Oh Handle you are so sweet.

Clicking a topic in the sidebar produces a pop containing an advert which persists for a minute or so then goes. This morning it was a tradexchange.com one telling me flashplayer wasn't installed. I didn't click it so no idea where it went.
This only happens once during any visit to this forum.
On the home page there is a banner ad slot for a company called Media-Clic.com which this morning sported an expedia advert. At the bottom of every topic page there is a four slot taboola.com advert holder.

How else would the outfit that runs these forums earn some credits to pay its bills/invoices with?

(The outfit means the company behind it all NOT Lopsum just wanted to make that crystal clear)

That's the way to do it. To quote a phrase.

The banner add and annoying pop ups which plaqued the mobile version seem to have now disappeared.
I just assumed it was supposed to be there

there are settings for adds, i have not added my google ads account to the site so any adds are indeed from the hosts, will have another look. I havent really looked since initial set up for this sort of stuff i do remember ticking no ads for members.

Reduce the number of displays for image advertisments : Yes
Activate ads : All Members and guests (as opposed to just members guests not admin)
Text ads activation for guests(underlined) :  No
Allow sponsored content at the bottom of the page :   No

seems there is no absolute off, i never noticed them because i use add block and never thought to turn it off to check.
Text adds were active for guests which ive now turned off. Reduce the amount was actually on NO so its now on Yes .
Its what we get for the service, adblocker is the best solution if it bothers anyone.
