DEA nightmare

So, i recently had a DEA on my wages which has been paid off to DWP, But i also noticed another one was attached, so i had two, This is the interesting part!

DWP say i've paid off my debt with them and are only aware of one (well the lady i spoke to was anyway)

My place off work however are saying my first DEA ended and another started and that i need to speak to DWP

What am i supposed to do? i have no idea what it is for, who it is, not had any letters etc and feel rather powerless that someone is getting money that i worked hard for.

You need the DEA reference numbers, could one be for the dwp and the other for another debt, Council Tax maybe or are they definitely both for the DWP?

Well, i actually found out its from a loan of some sort from 2007, i dont remember having this loan asked them what proof they had and his answer? the proof is that it is on the system, i also stated why i hadn't been contacted etc and he couldn't give me an answer, instead he said that they tried to make contact...yet i haven't had any letters.....rather frustrated!

They are usually emergency loans from the DWP, when something breaks down (boiler etc.) and you need it fixing.

If you have no recollection of this, write in to the DWP and ask them for what exactly it's for / evidence that they issued you with the loan and what correspondence they're sent to you.

If you don't get anywhere after 30 days get in touch with your MP and ask them to help you resolve this.

That's a link for info on an Attachment of Earnings order, Stormy's is a Deduction from Earnings, they are two different processes.

Ok,

i have had a look & the only info i can find is a Deduction from earnings order is only for child maintenance
Stormy says he believes its for a loan.In which case should it not be an AoE ?

Stormy named it a DEA - which stands for a Direct Earnings Attachments, they are used by Government departments to recover such debts as Council Tax, overpayments of Housing Benefit or Working Tax Credits, child maintenance or by DWP for loans given to claimants.

An Attachment of Earnings order is used for debts and can only be applied for through the County Court after a CCJ has been obtained.

One thing that may help is an employer don't have to comply with a DEA if they employ 10 or less people.
