Not a recognised Debt
Hello. I am after some advice. 2 years ago I received a letter from debt collectors after me for £5070.67 (Mercedes Car Finance), I have never had a car from Mercedes finance and so did not respond. This week, I have had another letter from a different debt company asking for the same amount but this time regarding to a Current bank account. This bank account with the certain bank was closed some 19 years ago and as far as I am aware no outstanding amounts were owed. Can anyone advise me on this please?
Regards and thanks in advance

Re: Not a recognised Debt
To start with I would reply along the lines of , I have no knowledge of this alleged debt ,I require documentation
to support your presumption that I have any lawful obligation to you.
See what they come back with.

Re: Not a recognised Debt
Thank you for the reply daveiron. I was wondering about the time, ie,if there is such a debt (I am pretty confident there isnt), would a reply by me take me out of the statute barred time frame? How best to contact them? Via email or letter do you think?
TIA

Re: Not a recognised Debt
No do not acknowledge any debt & you are ok regarding SB. Is it possible it relates to a car loan from a different company
as they do change names etc.
You can ignore if you wish ,but if it were me I would want to know what it relates to.
Always communicate only by letter via recorded delivery.

Re: Not a recognised Debt
Again, thanks for the reply daveiron. Definately not a car loan, I paid my last car loan off in 2014 in full. I do have a sneaky feeling this was a loan taken in my name without my knowing about it (sneaky ex wife sort of thing, but I cant be sure). My first problem is recorded delivery, I am out of the UK working so will need to find a way. This debt seems to be over 10 years at least and I am certain its not mine. I managed to get a mortgage 2 years ago no problem so I am confident it does not appear on any credit rating I have..

Ok, in that case email, just make sure you keep copies just to be on the safe side. At this stage its best to find out
what this is all about otherwise it will probably just keep reappearing from time to time.

Re: Not a recognised Debt
daveiron, the letter received was from Ruthbridge Limited on behalf of Cabot Financial. Cabot have instructed all contact is to be with Ruthbridge and not Cabot. Can you shed any light on this? Are they playing games by any chance? Again thank you

Re: Not a recognised Debt
I may include the fact that as you have no knowledge of any alleged debt, you require the full information as you suspect an unlawful act may have been committed and you need this to pass onto the authorities in respect of this matter.

Re: Not a recognised Debt
Ok, I just looked them up they are only debt collectors ,just another parasite in the chain.
Either deal with them or Cabot. Personally I would only deal with Cabot as they are the ones making the
claim you owe them money.
