Am getting by just, but can not afford to pay past debts accumulated after leaving a bad marriage and having to start again financially, now seeking help as have read a good bit about the 3 letter process for sold debts, and as I have now been notified of one, I really am struggling to get my head around this emotionally, I have got by the last few years by paying £1 a month to the original creditor, and in effect relaxed a little from the thoughts of knocks on the door, so this letter today has shaken me somewhat and set off my health related issues which are exacerbated by stress, so really hope that I have found a place to help.

Have popped a post asking for more specific advice, hope. I am married again and live with a simple life in the middle of nowhere, we were just starting to do well with our self employed market trading businesses, when we had the rugged pulled from under us and had to start again, losing a huge part of our well established customer base, so finances are somewhat tight!

Anyway look forward to being part of a group and to share anything I learn along the way, and hope for some good steerings for my situation.

Welcome LynnB!

There’s plenty of help on hand here. A good bunch to be found. (But to be safe - and at least until you become comfortable with the approach etc. - I recommend you only take advice from people with at least 2 or 3 stars against their profile as it’s not been unknown for the odd troll (debt purchaser / collection agency) to pop up masquerading as a legitimate person in need of help but giving out misleading advice..) Having said that, the kind moderators on here do a Stirling job kicking the trolls out!

And so long as you’re organised / keep copies of your letters (and theirs ie those of the debt purchasers / collection agents) - and your recorded delivery receipts/signatures - you’ll be in good shape and find that the three letter template approach works (I’ve been using it for years as have others.).

I have seen your other post and as much I wanted to respond, I’ll allow a moderator too first.

Also - and to hopefully allay some fear for you - as one of the wise moderators from the original GOODF site once said: “it’s just people in an office”. So remember that (and I’ll add my penny’s worth which is it is pretty much mostly idiots in an office...)

And don’t use email. Always deal in writing. If you have since replied via email then perhaps change your email address. IF I ever get an email from a DCA etc it would go to my junk mail and there it would stay...

Last one: as long as you’re engaging in writing (ie the templates) - AND you send the Removal of Implied Rights of Access template (elsewhere on this site - go to the home page) you won’t grt bailiffs turning up... Your alleged debt is relatively small / unsecured etc.

Also NEVER provide personal details in posts and not even dates etc as trolls could put 1 and 1 together and work out who you really are.. See? ;-)

All the best!

Hi and welcome.

Mr Blue gives some excellent advice, no doubt learned the hard way like so many of us.

Thanks Dave. Yes, you bet.

LynnB - the fear goes, trust me... This whole process has been a REAL eye-opener for me. It’s quite unbelievable that we live in a world where people think they can bully their fellow citizens into coughing up money and yet the bully’s don’t even have the means (documentation etc) to substantiate (EVIDENCE) their claim that you owe THEM money. And trust me, THEY KNOW THAT which degrades the meaning of their existence alongside us as human beings even more!

Are you going to let ‘people’ like that bring you down? Course you’re not LynnB! :-)

All the best,
