or is it "just a little old lady in a shiny hat" A Russell Brand quote.

A valid question one would think considering that what has come to light is the way that local authorities are abusing the courts system by operating there own businesses under the guise of legitimate magistrates courts

Another valid question is How can a magistrate sit at one of these courts?

According to the magistrates association and the government website https://www.magistrates-association.org.uk/about-magistrates/applying-become-magistrate

magistrates association wrote:Magistrates are members of the local community appointed by the Lord Chief Justice for England and Wales. Until 2013, they were appointed by the Lord Chancellor.

No formal qualifications are required but magistrates need intelligence, common sense, integrity and the capacity to act fairly. Membership should be widely spread throughout the area covered and drawn from all walks of life. Magistrates are typically recruited by a network of 47 local advisory committees, covering relevant geographical areas. They are made up serving magistrates and local non-magistrates.

All magistrates are carefully trained before sitting and continue to receive training throughout their service.

Magistrates are unpaid volunteers but they may receive allowances to cover travelling expenses and subsistence.

If you are considering becoming a magistrate we recommend you visit the GOV.UK website https://www.gov.uk/become-magistrate/apply-to-be-a-magistrate which has plenty of information and an application form.

The government website pretty much states the same thing

Apply to be a magistrate
Visit your local court

You should visit your local court at least once, and a few times if you can, to check the role is right for you.

As family cases are heard in private, you won’t be able to visit a family court before you apply.

Use the court finder to find your nearest court.

So lets have a look at the court finder. Seeing as powys magistrates court is allegedly our nearest court we'll pop over to the P section

https://courttribunalfinder.service.gov.uk/courts/P

and this is the list you can chose from
Names starting with P

   Patents Court
   Peterborough Combined Court Centre
   Peterborough Magistrates' Court
   Peterlee Magistrates' Court
   Plymouth Combined Court
   Plymouth Magistrates' Court
Pontypridd County Court and Family Court
   Poole Magistrates' Court
   Portsmouth Combined Court Centre
   Portsmouth Magistrates' Court
   Port Talbot Justice Centre
   Port Talbot Regional Divorce Centre
   Prestatyn Justice Centre
   Preston Combined Court Centre
Preston Crown Court and Family Court (Sessions House)
   Preston Magistrates' Court

No Powys Magistrates Court listed here, try as i might there would be no way i could even apply to be a magistrate of this court.

Side tracking a little, another interesting point is the coat of arms of the magistrates association https://www.magistrates-association.org.uk/our-history/coat-arms

Their moto Ratione et Consilio’

By reason and sound judgement.

IMHO this is all done by design quite possibly to herald in the new king. The law society are having some interesting dialogue on this subject on who is going to be the new king and who is going to be head of the commonwealth not to mention the discussions on keeping King Henry V111's prerogatives.

handle, i have read a little about greg hallett but with regards to the magistrates, their oath is to Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, so how on earth can they sit on the benches of these so called council courts?
