Vet bill

Post by Cookiemonster2 on Sat Apr 14, 2018 2:11 pm

We had a vet bill and phoned said they paid and sent email to confirm, this was 3 weeks ago.
My brother got back home after been away for two weeks to find two letters by a Debt collector for £100 only giving 5days to respond and the 2nd letter they upped it to £650 with only giving 5days to respond.
it looks like the insurance had paid £750 of the £810 bill so there was £60 still left.
The vet did not contact us 3weeks ago about this £60 and went straight for debt collectors and i feel debt collectors have been unreasonable in the time giving and extra £550 charge after the 5days.

Where do we go from here???

if the vet contact us 3weeks ago, wouldnt of mind paying the £60

If you owe £60 to the vet ,pay them directly. If they refuse payment ,then there is no longer a dept.

Pay nothing to debt collectors ,you owe them nothing.

You are under no obligation to interact in any way with debt collectors.

I agree with daveiron and you should deal with the vet. Something like this happened on the old goodf site a few years back and this member was given similar advice back then.

If the vet has sold the debt to the debt collector then you no longer have contract with the vet so there is no need to pay them anything.

Since you do not have a contract with the debt collector then you don't have a contract with anyone so you owe no one anything.

If you go and pay the vet then the debt collector may still have the right to collect the debt in law, if they are the sort of debt collector who has purchased the right to sue you for the debt, from the OC.
