open log fires ,pretty much the same.

No, they are talking of wood stoves and not open fires in this case, open fires are already regulated.

Ha! Think you just got 'burned' assassin!

Nah, not even singed.

Assassin. Thats just semantics!

The wood can be free.

Yes it can, but when you add up the costs of purchasing a fire and all its anciliaries and fitting it all adds a cost, and in the majority of cases (if figures for the South are to be believed) the majority of users buy in wood in bags for their fires.

This reporting of a possibility of the mayors ideas is just testing the waters.

Its done all the time. The papers work for Big Gov. so what is reported should be taken with a pinch of salt.

I understand that those within the mayors 'curtilage' are not those unable to afford the basics, so this is just a cry for tax on those buying wood, paying for your C02.

IT WONT BE BANNED, IT WILL BE CHARGED!

They have tried to ban them for decades and failed, if they can't ban them then charging seems a more realistic possibility.

I saw this article from last year on the Telegraph (sorry) web site Is my wood burning stove really killing me?

What surprised me was the high readings he saw inside the room with the wood burner. I would have thought a correctly functioning stove should be drawing air out of the room, not putting combustion products into it. Now wondering if there's an easy way to test either of ours.

That's funny, I see the link when I look at the post. Have another go putting in just as text ...

www.telegraph.co.uk/news/earth/environment/12175306/Is-my-wood-burning-stove-really-killing-me-What-happened-when-I-monitored-my-exposure-to-pollution.html

However to summarise, the guy borrowed a dust monitor which took readings of the harmful particulates, and took it around with him measuring air quality in his home, workplace and in the street.

Just read the paper piece.

Interesting read. Which shows we have little to worry about, according to the VERY unscientific report. It was a bit of fun, thats all, but those'little pieces' in the snooz papers will ALWAYS lead to a more worrysome piece down the line, as that is what they are for!

The slow chip chip chip of how we live is wrong, made up by the communists out there, those on the left, will make you worry that we need to change things and charge those that dont change!

I think those here will take the news report of important information, turned to fun, with a pinch of salt...or a spade of salt as the writer suggests!

Cool

Science based upon credible research shows log burners aren't killing people as any correctly installed installation either by a professional installer or DIY installer has to draw air from somewhere and the only place it can draw it from is the room in which it is sitting and burning.

Just a thought Tom, how about banning newspapers as sitting in a room and reading them produces more airborne dust particulates than log burners do, now theres a thought..........................

This is a point!

When a proper test might be done, it has to be taken into account a full 24hr period, or an arbitrary duration where its agreed that a man might be sitting in the same room as a burner!

I know of units that bring in air from an external source to stop that 'air draw' we all know of whereby the rest of the house gets cold because the fire pushes the heat up the spout!

I think though that the wankers that be are just after the post heat phase. We cant stop the C02 now can we!!!?
