Our Garden Empty Our Garden

Post by assassin Sun Jul 02, 2017 2:57 am

Its been an interesting afternoon as it was maintenence time in the garden, and as we have a number of mature trees it was cleaning time underneath them and I got the 4X4 out and hitched up the 2 tonne trailer and loaded up with tools, as we began work and loaded our first wheelbarrow to tip into the trailer it appeared, our Robin. He is a curious little sole and is frightened by very little and as we began clearing out under the trees he went ferreting in the cleared areas and wasn't at all bother by us, even when one adult neighbour went past and saw what we were doing and came to help, and the five village children who also came to help.

He didn't know where to go and took it in turns flying into the trees where the bottoms were being cleared and dropped to the ground around, and inbetween people when grobs or worms were visible and picked them up and ate them, he wasn't phased by people.

With the trailer quickly filled I took it up to the woods to empty it, the kids jumped onto the trailer and the robin flew over and landed on the tailgate and he had a ride up, as the trailer was being emptied and its contents thrown over our hedgehog runs he went rummaging in the topping which had been thrown on, meanwhile my other half had made up a quantity of water with lemon and lime slices in it and we sat down to have a drink and robin flew back. He hopped from glass to glass and had a drink out of every glass, obviously he wanted his share.

Mid afternoon my mate came round with his wife and young son, they had slaughtered some cattle and had an extra one slaughtered for themselves which had been butchered and matured and he bought some pieces for me, his wife saw we had visitors and like any good farmers wife she did us a snack and raided my poly tunnels and made a salsa entirely from what I had in the ground or the tunnels, and revealed her husband (a farmer) had really come to have a look at my new tractor and to ask me a favour which was to slice him some tree trunks down for boards. He revealed his intentions and I threw the tractor keys to him and told him to fetch his already loaded trailer, which he did, and she sliced the fresh beef and grilled it for everyone and served it with her fresh salsa which pleased everyone, including the robin who hopped across various plates and he had some and obviously liked it as he tried plenty of it.

As my mate loaded a tree trunk onto the saw and started the engine and started cutting, the ribin heard it and flew into barn and landed on top of the saw as it went up and down cutting boards and he wasn't phased by anything at all, not even my mate who found him fascinating to watch, especially his bravery.

Meanwhile we finished clearing under all the trees and turned to my plot, in the village we have a family who have nothing, the husband simply did a runner and hasn't been heard from since departing for Spain, they are lovely people and will do anything for anybody so as some of the kids picked celery and beetroot I picked rhubarb and the kids wrapped some of it in newspaper and ran down to give it to the family. Meanwhile, we had a surplus of rhubarb and we had a winemaking session and the kids ran home to fetch demijohns and even my mates wife went home and fetched some, and we made 17 gallons of rhubarb wort for everyome to add sugar to and ferment, meanwhile the robin flew into the kitchen and watched the proceedings from the back of a kitchen chair, and my mate put the stewed rhubarb into a container to take for his cattle who love it spread over a grazing field.

Really nice to read this assassin. Thanks for the post. Got me thinking a new topic which could be put on the board called say My Day. Gives us plenty to write about when we get the chance and share interesting stories. Just a thought.

Thanks guys.

THis morning we had both robins and two infants and I sat at one of our tables under what we call the bird tree as the hanging feeders are there, and it was a mass of birds, even crazy the cat came and sat on the table next to the big water tub we have for the birds and one of the adult robins came and perched on the edge next to crazy cat and had a drink. Crazy doesn't bother with birds and all he wanted was some muesli and was very patient and the birds know it, and we had blue tits and their young, sparrows and their not quite so young, house martens, blackbirds, and even the lunatic woodpecker put in an appearance. It is often nice to sit out and watch the birds while you eat.

Crazy cat got the bowl with a little muesli lect and ate that and left the milk.

High crime area? Only teasing, I saw you mentioning that it's new so don't blame you for taking precautions. Round here everyone leaves the keys in the ignition (if it even has a key).

Anyway my reason reason for posting was to ask what sort of saw you run?

Its not very old, but new to me.

The saw is basically a home designed saw mounted on a frame, it was one from work which was replaced and this was modified to mount and run a diesel engine instead of an electric motor and is a lerge metal cutting bandsaw, the lower blade guides were removed and new ones made to run the blade flat instead of twisting it 90 degrees.
