School Detention Empty School Detention

Post by janloot Thu Nov 16, 2017 10:57 am

Good morning GOODFF members Wink

I am looking for some advice regarding School Detention

My daughter came home yesterday from school saying one of her teachers said the home she handed in was NOT up to the teachers required standard!
As a result the teacher was issuing a 1hr after school detention.

No I know they are allowed under "their rules" to do this; however, can they do this for the reason above?

The school is an academy and apparently it is my responsibility to collect her from school as there will be NO transport provided by the school. She does receive free bus transport provided by the council & I was wondering if I could try going down the route of the academy was denying/preventing my child from receiving her "right" to access/use the transport she is entitled from the council?

Not sure if I am clasping at straws here but all advice most welcome.

Wink

Hi janloot

Your daughter has no rights, and if you don't know what yours are then neither have you.

If it was me and i wasn't worried about my progeny learning the wrong lesson from it, i would claim hardship for myself having to make special arrangements to get the child home.

But if this works, you have just given your daughter a get-out-of-(school)jail-free card for future use which could affect her whole attitude to school to the detriment of you both.

Good luck.

Cheers!

I'm sure they still have to give 24 hours notice in writing before detaining a child.

Thanks for the replies Wink

The only notice I have been given was from my daughter ,,,,,,,,, Nothing at all received from the school as yet.

Just concerned that a teacher can "detain" a pupil because he/she is of the opinion the COMPLETED homework is not upto their standard!

It is my understanding that the homework only needs to be completed Question Question

Use this if you can. Bear with the process...

Did YOU sign a 'contract' with the school? You might have done when you first took her there in the start.
Its a silly thing, but they will use this as the true contract. Did she? Did your partner?

I used the fact that (A) When my girl signed, it was an unlawful contract due to her coercion to join the school and that she was too young at the time to legally enter into a contract!
And that (B) My wife signed (if they try and use you as the obligated party) and I didnt, and we BOTH own the girl and we should have both signed!

So, if you and your other half agreed, and you feel obligated, then just let them know that you will be "removing her from school soon. Thank you very much!"

School Detention Empty Re: School Detention

I never forced my kids to do home work nor wear school uniform and never once did any off them get a detention, the school did try though once with my son. The daughter who loved school always complied with what the rules were but my son wouldn't wear shoes nor a tie and he never once did a bit of homework and my feeling on the matter were you have to have time to be a child and if they couldn't teach you enough in school time then tough. As you could probably guess I'm not a great believer in education (well I am but our kids don't receive it properly). Not many poor kids go to Eaton or Harrow nor Oxford or Cambridge (my cousin went to Balliol college Oxford), one or two real clever ones might make it, but how many do you know in your experience that go on from a comprehensive school. I've not seen my cousin since I was 19 and I remember asking him what he learnt at college and he said how to cream money out of poor people.
The moral is we always try to push our kids to do the best for themselves but the Government needs them to be flipping burgers in maccy d's. And nine times out of ten the Government wins.

Yes! I also forgot to mention that homework is NOT a legal requirement! A child cannot be forced to do it or punished for not!
