Coronavirus - lockdown - post offices, letters to debt companies Empty Coronavirus - lockdown - post offices, letters to debt companies

Post by Mrblue2015 Tue Mar 24, 2020 6:51 am

Good morning all,

We awake today to losing our freedom, albeit temporarily (!) As far as I am aware, we are only to leave the house for essential trips e.g. for food, medical reasons, to visit the vulnerable or to get our "daily allowance" of exercise. The above being the case, I don't see how that allows us to visit a post office (still open - for now at least, anyway). Therefore one could argue that we can no longer write to debt companies...

I am wondering how such companies will now behave i.e. what if, for example, a solicitor acting on behalf of a debt company issues a Letter Before Action? I.e. we would not be able to get out to post a response.

That's just one example of course.

Thoughts anyone? I appreciate that the coronavirus response goal posts are changing almost daily...

(As I stated on another post, the good news is that anyone expecting a bailiff etc turning up at their door has no longer any need to concern themselves with that, for now)

Keep well folks and ALWAYS get your priorities right i.e. you, your family and friends Smile

I would be suprised if any of these companies are at work ,ok some may
use their employes from home. I think however the courts will not be operating.
Yesterday I tried many times to contact 2 courts . One never answered the
phone all day and the other one I was no 67 in the queue & thats before the
lock down. Remember the government is god to these a*seholes and
they will comply.

This of course is very good news for all those who are getting close to statute barred.

Yes mate, some will be WFH as they're an office business. Also agreed on your other points!

Post Offices are remaining open according to the official list, particularly as many are now multi faceted businesses often incorporated into other shops who sell food, so they all remain open.

But visiting a post office has not been listed as one of the reasons for leaving your house. You can only “shop for essentials” ie food and medicine.

(I’m not saying I agree or disagree, I am jut looking to see if anyone has heard via the news etc specifically in relation to this area because visitors to this site may still be receiving letters from debt companies and/or solicitors and would likely need to know if they can - or should - be replying to them still)

i can't imagine for a moment anyone can or should take receipt of mail, it could be contaminated. How can anyone argue with that...all you're doing is following their guidelines and taking no chances.
