Elderly relative having trouble getting phone contract see below
"We're sorry, we can't take your order any further, because of the standard credit and fraud checks we've carried out.

For more information on your credit file, please contact one of the following Credit Reference Agencies: Equifax, Experian or TransUnion."

anything we can do about this as they need a home landline phone? ...current provider "John Lewis" is ending the service so need to change to a different one.
They have never had a credit card no loans pay most utilities over the counter very few direct debits

on the third page - additional information - Experian ask for debit card verification "If you can't provide any of these details, we won't be able to verify you. If you don't have your details to hand you can always come back later and the information you've provided so far will be saved."
so dont know how to get a check without a card?

Didn't do that for me. It asked a series of questions relating to information they already hold about me, things like "Which of the following banks do you have an account with". Maybe they ask for debit card if they're not happy with the amount they can verify this way. What do they do with the debit card? I would give card details to an outfit i have no intention of paying.

just did it with a debit card and their score is the highest 999/999"excellent"
think they want out so they can try and get you to sign up
so not sure why BT refused i have emailed them 4 times no response.
My elderly relative is now left without a phone as John lewis have ended their service so i cant contact them as they dont have any other phone its disgusting!!

People in the next village have been receiving letters from BT telling them they need to switch to "Digital Voice". Tbe actual PSTN shutdown by Openreach is scheduled for sometime before the end of 2025, but it looks like the retail part of BT wants their customers migrated beforehand. This might be another reason for them not wanting to take on a new landline only customer.
