cheers pitano.

but:
'All electricity and gas meters have dates by which they should be replaced. From what I have read the Bill gives representatives from energy companies the power to enter any home, with police protection if required, to replace traditional meters at the end of their lives with smart meters. Again, “reasonable force” may be used.'

I thought perhaps wrongly? credit meters didn't have a 'use by date'?

I need to read that bill properly, but they're misunderstanding where they're interpreting “Energy smart appliance” to mean a smart meter. A smart meter doesn't do any of the things described.

https://bills.parliament.uk/bills/3311

Suppliers already have an obligation (not just the right) to replace meters that have reached the end of their certified life, and can use force to do so.

Had an email last week from my supplier (Octupus) telling me my meter
needs to be replaced due to its age and i need to book an appointment
for them to come and fit a SM.
I replied that under no circumstances will they be fitting a SM , All of a sudden
its no longer important ,of course no mention of fitting a new analog meter.

I expect that'll hold them off for quite some time. They probably don't even have stock of non-smart meters by now, and smart metres are in short supply as well. So having shown willing by notifying you, there's little incentive for them to persist.

Just out of interest are you on a fixed tariff from before the recent price rises?

So reading the bill a "smart appliance" is defined ..
(1) 5 The Secretary of State may by regulations make provision about energy smart appliances that are—
(a) capable of being used in connection with any of the purposes specified in subsection (2), or
(b) charge points (for electric vehicles).

(2) The specified purposes are—
(a) refrigeration;
(b) cleaning tableware;
(c) washing or drying textiles;
(d) storing energy that—
(i) was converted from electricity, and
(ii) is stored for the purpose of its future reconversion into electricity;
(e) heating;
(f) air conditioning or ventilation

I guess without looking into the definitions sections ,it could be construded that
that the SM itself could be classed as an appliance, as for the rest of the list
that seems to cover a lot of domesctic appliances.

On the other post, i dont think im on a fixed tariff as they also wanted to increase
my DD payments. Im only paying £52 per month for gas & lecky & ive also told
them i will be out of the country for 3 months.

What they're looking for is high load appliances that can be programmed to run at lower power for longer, or at different times, or both. Some EV chargers already do this for cost reasons, but i believe that's proprietary between supplier and certain models of charger. What the industry wants to do is use some standardised form of signalling. The idea is to avoid scenarios like every commuter in the country plugging their car into a 7.6kW charger all at 18:00.

A smart meter can't do any of that, all it can do is switch off the supply altogether.

Reason for asking about tariff is that there can be big savings from smart meter tariffs in some circumstances. Ours has cut our costs by around 40%. But if you were on a fix from two years ago you'd already be better off. Or on Economy 10 or complex meter tariffs which aren't properly supported on smart meter.
