Hp creditor wants full payment for the van after my sons suicide

My son sadly took his life in 2022 after a ten year struggle with is mental health. I am going to address the weird goings on his widow is experiencing with his estate.

He had full insurance on his van and his family car rpior to his passing.
He also had £150k life insurance which was eventually paid out to his widow.
She has stupidly used some of the life inruance to settle his credit cards and other debts, about 20k.
Now the HP creditor for his van has a court order against the widow.

isnt this a bit like taking the mick? or is she just so much of a dumbo that she'll pay whatever to whoever demands it if the loans were in my son's name?

This is just for my information. This woman turned out to be very much what I warned him against before he got married. Unfortunately he was not inclined to listen if your advice was not aligned with his wants. We struggle with that as parents his whole life. He had asperghers and could be super difficult to cooperate with - but he was a genius in maths and music - way above what the rest of the family might ever hope to be like. He was really special in so many ways. His widow has been so horrible to us from the day he dies I just have no words. I have my hands full trying to confort my wife and daughter who are making super progress despite the losss.

I can't post without first saying how sorry I am to hear about your son.

Regarding his widow any outstanding debts in his sole name would have a claim against his estate, which should have been dealt with during probate. If there wasn't enough to clear them that's too bad for the creditors. They dont have a claim against his heirs for any shortfall. So its puzzling that they were able to get a court order, unless something was in joint names.

Thank you so much for your kind words. Honest, it makes my heart break for anyone who had this in their family. We are doing ok under the circumstances though, thank you again.

As I though. The dumb evil cow as I call her can pay it. I'll just sit back and watch her lose money on things she does not have to pay . She made his life living hell and ours knowing we could not stop him marrying her. You cant argue with stupid I've learned so I will let her be.

I'd surmise when she saw the life insurance money, her eyes just about bugged out. My bet is she bought a new car, and a house and now has nothing left. Dumb(L)ass should have paid the estates dues.
