No, do away with these draconian measures all together.

Speed traps should only be placed in areas which have a specific problem and they use figures to determine this. Accident figures are one way and these, along with other figures are so badly and criminally manipulated to create problems on paper, which don't actually exist.

Lets be realistic as they are easy revenue earners and nothing else, and often it is a numbers game as the majority of idiots pay up so easy income for virtually no work or expense, of those who do appeal them they are appealing to an employee of those enforcing them so no impartiality.

Much the same happens with policing, much easier to record a telephone call and issue a crime number over the phone as this takes little time and money, but investigating a real crime takes time and money to do, so spend as little as possible and do nothing to investigate and save even more.

Think about this logically, if you are caught doing 35 in a 30 area then you are perceived and presented as virtually a mass murderer, but ring about a house burglary and you get a crime number.

Yep, you can’t argue with any of that.

It is also cheaper for 'them' to install a speed camera at a high accident spot than to redesign and rebuild the road junction to make it safer.

They usually have previously redesigned the road to make it unsafe anyway.

That doesn't surprise me in the slightest. There's a new roundabout near us on a major A road and the twin lane road around it is so skinny and the turn offs to the exits so tight that trucks find it hard to get round and take up both lanes. It's bad enough in a car.

We also have a similar motorway junction which was straightforward, a two lane affair which lorries could go round easily, they "modified" it and made it three lanes and lorries couldn't get round in a single lane and there were numerous accidents.

Similarly, they introduced speed humps on a steep hill and when the snow fell nobody could see them and it sent lots of vehicles careering out of control, and of course they tried to blame drivers.
