No--it's not fear porn at all, Lopsum.

You need to research what "consciousness" is......There are instances where AI has actually developed it's OWN language--which cannot be deciphered by the original programmers---and the "robots"/ "computers" were actually "talking" to each other in their own "language". In the particular case I am talking about, this was stopped by the programmers as soon as it was discovered..... and yes, you guessed it---it was to do with Google.

.....so, this is NOT fear porn ..What the majority of the public "think" they know about AI is nothing to what is going on.

i dont need to , perhaps the journalists do need to "research" (lol) consciousness before they spout stupid stuff about it.
Google chat bots may or may not have communicated, maybe its random gibberish and google are full of crap. Nothing to do with consciousness if they did develop a code.
There is alot you dont understand about AI, because you havent really researched it. I have written some AI for a game, i have researched the concepts and implemented my own ,i learned not to listen to the media about AI,i can do better . Do you know what a neural net is? its a way that a program can hold a parameter and change it based on the outcome of other parameters, its how these chat bots change their script, by asking questions or being told information. Its very very clever programing,but no closer to true intelligence than a calculator.

how about , if a sufficiently intelligent and conscious program could work out how not to get switched off it could cause problems, it could then learn how to control any system that relies on the internet and disable the military and any organization it would deem a threat .These would be our main threats too, so it might be a good thing.

humanism is a branch of ideologys . Humanists mainly believe in the utility of technology to better mankind , they believe in scientific explanations of the universe. Most people are humanists to some degree because some level of technology can improve our lives ,its undeniable.
The branch splits at many stages due to moral values , some might believe that a certain technology would be bad for mankind and so would not want to utilise that particular technology . Cloning humans was one step most people would agree is dodgy ground and would create huge issues on ownership to say the least.
Eugenics comes under it , after all if the control of the gene pool can benefit humanity then shouldnt we do it ? What if it only really benefits the few ? Then it does not benefit humanity !
Trans-humanism has arrived with the technology , they believe that the modification of the human body is a healthy advancement and even a stage in evolution .
The same problem occurs some believe it can be a bad thing and only benefits the few.
Wouldnt implanting your brain with a device lead to being directly controllable at some point ? Would you trust the manufacturer ?
Any reasonable mind would say no , this is why the memes are a plenty, films,books,games etc all to distract from those questions and get the unthinking to buy into it unwittingly, only selling the good branch and bundling in the whole rotten tree .

It's all about opinions, perspective and how much research one has done .... which then gives you a perspective.

There is a lot of garbage out there on the internet---but if, like me, you have studied and researched certain subjects etc since well before the internet started, you get to know the wheat from the chaff.

You get to know which individuals to listen to and who to avoid.

One cannot do that with a few years of what they call "research"
That's the problem---the younger generation think all they have to do is look at a few videos and articles and then they are experts and know it all..... well, it doesn't happen that way.
