Old site / your info

I am sure many have noticed that a disproportionate number of claims appearing here ,are in relation to old debts ,which were pretty much done and dusted.

My feelings are that there must be a strong possibility that member information may be being sold by the owners of the old site. I cannot remember what info was given when joining the old site ,as i joined in 2011 .I assume it must at the very least included my name & possibly address.

The old site had/has a membership approaching 100 k and while we are steadily growing we are only approaching about 1% of that number.
If you take a moment to think about it ,its a win win for the new owners 1. money for the sale of info.2. Folks not aware of this site receive fresh demands and the first place they think of is the old site,where they are greeted by the prospect of what appears a cheap method of paying off said debt.

Debt purchasers would no doubt love that database as it links usernames to actual names,especially as the entire contents of the old site can be downloaded ( as some here have done).Therefore most folks who are not aware of this site and receive fresh demands ,will probably panic and comply. Also linking name to username it can be seen how someone acted to the original claim & whether they are likely to panic second time around.

Of course I cannot prove any of this but it may be a good idea to check we still have our original paperwork to hand.

From recollection you didn't give either name or address on the old site, just an email address, I wouldn't have initially joined otherwise!!

Debt purchasers inevitably chase the easy debts first (ie the ones they can scare into paying) and leave the 'others' until later (ie people who've made it clear they ain't paying).

Once they get anywhere close to a debt being statute barred they pick them up again and start to chase hard.

You didnt have to give any info but you could if you wanted the forms etc auto filled with your details, so there will be some who gave details that could be on a database still. Certainly not all members though.

I didn't give any of my personal details when I join GOODF in 2012, but then I don't give a damn either way. Wink

Ok so i must have given my info as forms were auto filled for me, But like LL i dont give a damn also.

It just appears that for some reason a disproportionate amount of requests for help here now relate to old claims.

Dave i was thinking the same, i think in one post i replied , i said maybe its a tactic , the DCA do not say anything after the 3 letter , but try again later when near statute barred .
this is why we are not having more people saying that the DCA have give up ,
but i do think if the other site did have the details they would sell on

Maybe after the third letter , we should say , if they dont have the paperwork they may give up , but may try again in a year or two ,,,,,if so start the 3 letters again

I agree, especially as if they come back at a later time they are no more likely to have the paperwork.
its just scare tactics .

And e mail addresses are never declared to Banks or lenders ?
Gas , Electric Council etc ?
Not difficult to do a Search of 100'000 email addys looking for a Hit.
