I was born in the 90s in the UK but both me and my brothers birth certificate says doesn't say anything like that.

There is nothing written like that both on the short form and long form

But some people apparently have that written on their birth certificates!

So what should I make of this???

Hi Lion

Hard to say - as in, i don't know. Same on my copy of Certificate of Birth. Perhaps that means it's b.s. Perhaps they changed or modified legislation in the 90's.

Betcha they got the surname in all caps though....

Cheers!

Any suggestions

Proof of identity checklist : https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/proof-of-identity-checklist/proof-of-identity-checklist#proof-of-identity

You can use it as proof of 'name',

Proof of identity checklist for individuals

You cannot use one form of identification for both name and address.

For example, if you provide your driving licence as proof of your name you must provide another form of identification for your address, such as a utility bill.

Proof of name : Original birth certificate (UK birth certificate issued within 12 months of the date of birth in full form including those issued by UK authorities overseas such as Embassies High Commissions and HM Forces)

It says 'Original' so perhaps if you get a reissue it has the 'not to be used for ID purposes' text on it.

Hi actinglikeabanker

Nope. Mine's a re-issue but doesn't have it. Looks like it's a mystery to look into all by itself!

Good link though, ta

Cheers!
