Council tax urgent please

We have money owed across three separate years council tax, now most of this I was unaware of as my wife had set up a direct debit and had been paying this (we had just had our son and my wife stayed at home so she was arranging the bills) anyway some of this hadn’t been paid when I thought it had, I called them amd set up a payment plan but they wanted £300 a month off one account and £30 from another so total £330 per month. I felt I had to accept this as they would go to my employer and take more than that and we would struggle. To be honest £330 is too much as it is and is causing us financial difficulties, I have just had to pay a £6k funeral bill for my father that passed unexpectedly. We had received a letter giving us seven days to pay in full and we simply can’t, what are my options here please? We are really worried and don’t know what to do. I have requested a breakdown as my wife insists that it shouldn’t be the amount that they state as she had definitely set up a DD. We’re not saying that we won’t pay it, on the contrary, we will but at a rate that won’t cause us financial hardship. Please send f anyone can assist as we will be at day 7 from the letter by close of play today.

Hi Anonymous1975,

If I were you, please get in touch with your council as soon as poss', explain your situation & make an offer (what you can realistically afford - even if its £10/month or even 1p), as long as you make an offer you are then seen as NOT refusing to pay, or at least they should.

Getting in touch with your council as soon as poss', is of paramount importance, so please do NOT delay, again explain your situation & try to come some sort of a plan with the council. Remember these parasites will never let anyone get away with out paying, they will go for a charging order on property unless you live in rented accomodation.

I have never heard of anyone being told 'that's it you do not have pay any more' because they won a legal arguement (we are all in a corrupt rigged system), there are things the council can do such as issue a nil - zero rated bill, but that's for specific circumstances.

Others may have better suggestions?
