Since I do not have permission to reply in this post I thought I would reply with my own.

Nice info but the only thing I would say about this is if dnb run its business the same as companycheck then that number is generated by dnb and is not recognised by the councils, police etc when you talk to them. Can anyone verify that the number generated is the one the council, police would accept as theirs and therefore have to own up to this. They are all non-limited businesses and that is where getting info stops.

I would think that a foi request should answer that provided that it is asked in such a way as to deny them any wriggle room.

I've just gone through the process of getting an email on my council and all I can say is I think this is a number generated by dnb (as it does state DUNS Number and D-U-N-S is a registered trademark) and councils and police etc will not respond to any requested from them regarding being on this website and companycheck. How do I know this, because I've already been through the whole naffin process before with my council and police. Unlocking non-limited business is the key in my opinion.
