Originally DLC bought the debt off MBNA which I have proof as I still have the letter both DLC and MBNA sent me confirming that the debt has been sold by MBNA and purchased by DLC, but then apparently Cabot Financial Europe Ltd bought out DLC so Cabot Financial Europe Ltd are now saying that they now own the debt.

Regards.

OK understood. I would imagine Cabot will now get a minion - sorry DCA - to start harassing you now. So just use the 3 letters for a DCA if that happens. But keep us posted so we know for sure what happens next Smile

If you're not afraid of imprisonment perhaps. I myself enjoy my freedom, family, friends, opportunities to progress my life and not having a prison record.

I just don't want anyone to be misled. Please elaborate on why one needn't be fearful of the government chasing you for debt, as non-payment is an imprison-able offence?

I hope you don't believe that. I assume you don't because you ended with a question mark. Thats a load on nonsense. It may have applied in victoria times with debtors prison etc but not today. Even inability to pay council tax would not be imprisonable, though refusal may be,

Yep!

My msg was in response to a comment saying don't fear debt collectors or the government. I don't fear the former as there is no sentence for bank debt.

Spot on Compaq7500 - I was literally about to pull Stevro up regarding his (yet again) hijacking of people’s (you in this case) posts.

I can only apologise on his behalf. I will PM you.

I take back that apology with all due respect. If I can't comment on an obvious error and a mod can't take criticism then we don't have a forum. We have a one way dialog that can't be challenged and mods who can't acknowledge an error. Let alone turn to sarcasm and condescension.

I didn't call you an idiot for suggesting people in debt shouldn't fear the government. I merely pointed out it was punishable by prison time. I then only responded when others replied.

I suggest you moderate the hell outta your forums and people can then believe that challenging the government on debt isn't to be feared and your word is above the law. Sorry I overstepped the mark by trying to keep people out of jail. You continue with your advice and I will never challenge again.

Yep you tend to get 'offers'. But 75% off is rare / implies the alleged debt is high. How much was the alleged debt? Just round up to the nearest £1,000

So they've reduced the amount to £2,000. To me that sounds like a debt purchaser who hasn't got a leg to stand on due to their significant lack of evidence Wink

I've had large reduction offers before too. And once they realised I still wasn't interested, they admitted the alleged debt was legally unenforceable. What a surprise Wink

The choice is of course yours. Do you want to pay an alleged debt back no matter how good the offer is? Or carry on with the process?

Good evening Mr Blue

I have received a letter from Cabot Financial today stating the following.

MY NAME - We need your urgent attention.

You have chosen to not respond to any of our recent communications about your account even though we have given you ample opportunities.

This is a defaulted account and the full balance of ££££££ is still due

We take this matter seriously, you have 9 days to respond to this letter.

If we do not hear from you we may look at other ways to resolve this debt, this could include an agent visiting your property to discuss your situation.

Head of internal operations

I can confirm that I have sent all 3 letters which have all been signed for by royal mail special delivery service and have proof of all 3 signatures confirming that Cabot Financial have received the 3 letters

Mr Blue your advice is greatly appreciated regarding what my next step should be.

Regards
