Tyne Tunnel Unpaid Toll Charge Notice
For the last year, the toll has gone cashless and been replaced with a very poorly implemented
online payment process.
I appealed this charge because i was unable to pay the toll on their website within
the 24 hour deadline due to the
page not moving to the final stage of the payment for the 1.90 toll charge.
They dismissed my appeal saying i should
have tried the automated payment phone line which i didnt know about.
They said it's well advertised.
Many others are have issues with this new payment process.
I'm not paying this 'unpaid toll charge' so it will picked up by Marstons debt collectors.
It seems to me everything is set up in such a way to give you a very short timescale in which to pay
the original fee so that as many people as possible fall into their UTCN system.
What would be the best approach to dealing with this?

Re: Tyne Tunnel Unpaid Toll Charge Notice
I would point out to them that at no time have you refused payment.
In fact you made every effort to pay,if their method of receiving payment
is not fit for purpose then they should change it to one that is.
Ask what obigation is there that you must pay on line as that is discrimination
those who are not in possession of such a device.

After a bit of advice on how to best deal with this.
I appealed on the grounds that the online payment form for the 1.90 toll charge
would not proceed after attempting to several times within the ridiculous 24hr deadline
but they just kept coming back with there were no system issues
on the day in question and that i should have rang support.

Re: Tyne Tunnel Unpaid Toll Charge Notice
You could try sending the £1.90 as at no time have you refused to pay.
Ask them if they have evidence that their system accepted every payment
attempt that day by not only yourself but others also.

Re: Tyne Tunnel Unpaid Toll Charge Notice
There's only a option to pay the UTCN so i cant pay 1.90 as that would be taken as payment in advance for a future trip so this will go to the DCA

Re: Tyne Tunnel Unpaid Toll Charge Notice
As predicted it's gone to marstons asking for £166.90. Is it worth speaking to them explaining that at no point have i refused to pay
the toll and that it was a problem with their website?
That i also will attend court if necessary to defend myself?
What concerns me is the cited tyne tunnel bylaw which carries a £1000 fine
Obvoiusly i want to avoid court and im not bothered if i get CCJ.
Is it a breach of data protection for tyne tunnel staff to obtain my details form the DVLA?
