New Po-lice Scam Looming

Its recently been announced that Thames Valley and Hampshire lice are going to invest in technology to combat mobile phone use while driving, and again this is the thin end of the wedge.

They are going to install sensors at the roadside and if a vehicle passes and someone is using a non hands free mobile phone it will trigger a large sign which will flash and tell them to get off their mobile phone, but this has some serious issues other than a distracting flashing sign which will inevitable take drivers eyes away from the road and cause more accidents.

Having a cursory glance at their system rings alarm bells straight away.

It only works if it doesn't detect a bluetooth hands free kit and this is an immediate issue as many drivers with a plug in microphone and ear piece will trigger it so it assumes everyone has, is using, or wants a bluetooth hands free kit when they could be driving perfectly legitimately with a plug in hands free kit.

Most mobile phones have auto ranging microphones and an inbuilt speaker and simply having a cradle and setting it to speaker is perfectly legal and this will trip the system even though this is perfectly legal.

It doesn't differentiate between which person in the vehicle is using a mobile phone, a typical car full of youngsters could see all four passengers using their mobile phones, yet the driver isn't using his/hers, again perfectly legal yet this will trip the system.

This monitors the bluetooth signal and privacy and security are huge issues here as it is another way of monitoring motorists who choose to turn their vehicle monitoring systems off, and another intrusion into our privacy for people going about their daily lives, and how long will it be before it is storing this data on huge databases, and how long will it be before your vehicle is hacked using this route and everything on your phone is monitored.

We have to start asking ourselves some serious questions, once this monitoring system is in place then what else will it be monitoring, and how long will it be before the lice start sending out letters to people as they currently do with speed cameras and people just accept it and simply pay up. It is the first potential roll out of a system which assumes your guilt and the first steps to undermining the system of law, where unlike today you have to be found guilty, and assumes you are guilty and you have to prove your innocence.

I reckon the real goal here is to get to a place where they can fine drivers for not having two hands on the steering wheel at all times.

Why do i reckon this?

- Because driving for any length of time with both hands on the steering wheel becomes downright impossible. Sooner later all drivers take their hands off the steering wheel for a whole host of reasons.

With out telling them; just observe the driver of the vehicle you are in as a passenger and see how long they drive with both hands on the steering wheel for.

Every thing these days is done under the guise of "safety". When you go into a public building you may see notices to the affect "abuse of staff will not be tolerated, we ask you to be patient for your own safety". Does not stop the staff being abusive to you though.

Cameras are in store for your "safety".

I had to ask myself why they are there for my safety when I first saw them LS as I have been going into shops for decades without cameras and nothing had changed, I felt perfectly safe.

Have you noticed the plethora of small square camera lenses pointing at windscreens that have started appearing in their numbers. This is a clear use of facial recognition systems being used, but will also be to get mobile phone users.
They are low placed usually on lamp posts or similar.

Handle, take a look at pedestrian crossings and the crossing sensors which detect pedestrians on the crossing now have an addition to them which is a small camera mounted on the top pointing either way, some new LED light heads also have them mounted either side, just above the LED light to prevent flare, its surprising how many people never look up.
