Gardening Cheats Empty Gardening Cheats

Some gardening cheats to plant a crop once and sustain it throughout the season, and not have to continually buy seeds, and save yourself a lot of labour and money.

Tomatoes - if you have some nice organic tomatoes which can be home grown or bought, and you get a couple past their peak of freshness and are becoming over ripe you never throw them away as you can re-plant them, cut the tomato into thick slices and place into a pot of planting compost in a single layer and cover over with a light covering of compost and water well, leave them in the warm and in around a week they will germinate and begin producing new plants which you select the best out of and pot on, instant tomatoes for free. Never use tomatoes grown from hybrid seeds as they are often chemically or genetically treated to prevent them germinating again.
Using this method means you only need one packet of seeds and by saving tomatoes from your final crop of the season you can remove the seeds from the tomatoes and dry them and store them away until next years growing season and begin again by using your saved seeds, thus saving on seed costs for the second year.

How many people like Chinese food? not the rubbish you buy from the local take away which is so full of processed rubbish that no Chinaman would eat it, but real Chinese food which is exceptionally healthy? what is known as the trilogy of Chinese food? chilli, garlic, and ginger; and you can grow your own ginger for years like tomatoes. Prepare your ground with a fairly free draining compost, or container grow it as either works, take a large root of ginger and snap it into pieces at its thin points of the root and you will have several pieces, place into your growing medium and cover with around 3/4" (20mm) of growing medium and place in a sunny spot and you will be inundated with ginger plants and their delicious roots throughout the year. Contrary to popular belief, you dont need to wait for autumn to harvest your ginger when the weather has killed the tops as you can harvest it at anytime by cutting off the tops and lifting the root; at the end of the season you select some nice roots and save them in a cool and dry place ready for planting next year.

Spring Onions - often called salad onions or scallions in some parts of the world, plant them into the ground or containers (deeper ones) and let them grow, instead of picking them you cut about half their length off and use this while leaving the root in the ground, keep the growing medium wetter than normal and they will regrow and one planting of spring onions will last you all season.
