Horrible People

Has anyone else noticed just how petty people have become and just how willing they are to turn on other people without knowing the facts, and operating solely upon a pre conceived idea or an assumption, and how this type of behavior is seemingly promoted so people turn on people for the silliest reasons to keep the population turning upon one another.

Several weeks ago I had one of my cars tuned extensively and I went to collect it with my 4X4 and car transport trailer and on my way I encountered a large traffic accident which caused a significant delay, after contacting the tuning company they simply said OK, no problem, we will wait for you and they were as good as their word and waited after their normal closing time for me; they also wanted paying which I suppose was an incentive.

After collecting my vehicle and returning home I did the silliest thing and took a wrong turning and as I looked to get back on the correct route and turned into an industrial complex and retail park to turn round and encountered a lot of youngsters showing their cars off in a private car park which belonged to a large named retailer and was covered in CCTV cameras, and was met by someone who asked if I had come to look at their vehicles and I told them I was looking to turn round. This guy was very nice and polite and said they were showing their cars off and if I wanted to come and look around they could take me to another car park where I could park my 4X4 with its trailer, they got a couple of their cars to move so I had more room to turn around and another jumped into my passenger seat and took me to another car park where I could occupy the two spaces I needed for my rig.

I spent three hours walking around and looking at their cars and everyone was very welcoming and I found out they were just a group of youngsters who were seriously into their cars and just liked hanging about together to talk cars and show their pride and joys off, there were no burnouts, no overly loud music, no drinking or drugs, and none of the attributes normally associated with these types of meets and I had some interesting chats with many of them, in the following days I was pointed to a local paper which reported on the event, and after reading it I did a SAR to the local Po-lice. It was the sort of paper where you can post comments and some were blatently lies and the others were based on pre conceived ideas and incorrect assumptions.

Most of the 47 comments were negative and only three were positive and factually correct.

Many were moaning about the noise, and this upsetting nearby residents on a Saturday night; really? they were on an industrial estate/retail park and there were no residential properties nearby, in point of fact the Muckdonalds on the other side of the retail park were making more noise than this meet.

Many were saying they should all be arrested for congregating on public land; it was a car park of a large retailer which is PRIVATE land, and they had written permission to be there and yes I did actually see this document and it was on company headed notepaper and signed by the store manager.

Many were saying that if they wanted to race around then they should hire a race track; where can you hire a race track on a Saturday night? and they didn't want to race around as they were more interested in looking at each others cars and talking vehicle modifications and not simply performance modifications as there were some very nice looking cars there. Many had spent over £20K on modifications and more had spent much more than that.

Some were questioning why they met on a Saturday night, really? it didn't occur to them that they worked all week and worked overtime on Saturday to fund their hobby and as I also found out, many had travelled a considerable distance to the event so a daytime meeting would be out of the question if they were working.

Results of the SAR were interesting, they stated that there were no problems with this event and that they had been notified of it, they attended at the beginning of the event and and had no concerns and there were no arrests of anyone showing, or attending the event; they had no reports of any racing on, or around the car park, and that when they attended the site after the event, that it was spotlessly clean and tidy.

This brings me to the question:

Is society becoming too judgemental and very petty?

Is society promoting these values of attacking other people for simply doing their own thing, and how many of those moaning were actually in the pub on the night of this event and getting drunk.

Are these comments sections designed to promote these attacks by ordinary people, on other ordinary people to deflect away from the real issues and agendas being promoted.
