We have a conservatory it is pretty knackered it was second hand when we bought it 12 yrs ago it,s okay in summer but in winter you may as well be sat outside and all that heat going literally out of the window ,

Last year we used a sheet of polythene and velcro to block it off ,
This year we are making simple sliding doors out of twinwall Polycarb bought off facebook market place ,
It needs taking down and replacing really but not until the mortgage is paid,
We have a stove so the gas will stay off this year bar hot water ,
We read the meter every 10 days we average £20 electric and £5 gas inc standing charges and that is where it is going to stay ,
simple things like changing every bulb to led or solar for outdoor makes a huge difference ,
Look on ebay for joblots ,
I also bought these which are fantastic if there are power cuts and the solar/12v system fails

Rechargeable LED COB Work Light Mechanic Flashlight Lamp Magnetic Base Camping
eBay item number:203957809974 ( pack of 4 )

I also make big pot meals start on the cooker and put on the stove to cook then batch them,
One thing I did last year was but a rolled up blanket under the sofas ,
You would be amazed what difference this makes to the cool draught that comes from under it ,
Same under your kitchen units and bath ,
Most properties have air gaps around these areas , We bought a few slabs of superglass insulation put them in bin liners and rammed them under the bath and under the kitchen units ,
the difference was immediate,

We have also put cowls over our airbricks on the outside ,
It can be very windy here and although air bricks are needed for ventilation that cold air comes straight in ,
That also has made a difference ,
In the bedroom we have an old wooden window which needs replacing ( again ) once mortgage is paid off,
We have a roller blind in the recess then thermal lined curtains ( these where a bargain find in the charity shop (NEXT brand new )
This year I have got a huge wooden louvre blind,
( another Facebook freebie )
That will be hung over the recess , the window if around 6ft the blind around 10ft ,
It's basically keep the cold and any heat you have in this year ,
We will be aiming for complete self sufficiency within the 2 years one way or another but obviously as much as you can save now all goes towards this end goal,
The last but unrelated money saving tip I would like to share is pet food,
The same as I have a large stash of dried for us thanks to Assassins heads up post ,
I buy my dogs damaged bags off ebay ,
There are a few sellers on ebay who obviously get all the damaged items from big corps and auction them off ,
My dogs eat better food cheaper than supermarket basic ,
I also have over 300 tins and 80kg of dried for future use if the worse comes to worse ,

The last thing I have done is buy perennial Kale plants so we can have fresh greens all year at no cost and I can sell cuttings once matured ,
And apple trees just the cheap bargain shop ones but already we have 13 apples in their first year , just group them together so they can pollinate ,
Blackberry picking too ,
I could not believe the price of jam £1.90 for what was around 69p last year , So jars are getting saved and sugar bought in bulk , should cost no more than 20p a jam and probably be better ,
