Natural meats are well known to be better for you than farmed meats as the beasts fed on heavily infested systems are full of chemicals and hormones designed solely to make an animal put on weight rapidly as all beasts are sold on weight alone and the more weight they have, the more you get paid for them and for many farmers it has to be about the money for them to survive. While this is fine to feed people is it really good for the animal and should we look at other alternatives as these chemicals are known to get into humans and cause many other health issues over the medium to longer term and these reasons are enough for many people to look to other alternatives and wild rabbits and hares are shot for natural foods as are pheasants and other game birds.

These have little return on the time invested in them and in reality even at organised pheasant shoots you spend a lot of time, and them money on shotgun cartridges to shoot a few birds which will often barely make a pie, then there is the clothing which is expensive and of course the dogs which need feeding and housing and the necessary vets, it aint cheap, and many of these birds are not wild birds, but bred solely for the shoot.

For many years I have suggested people get away from highly processed meats as they are a chemists wet dream and they all have a lot of sugar added and none of this is good for you and I have suggested wild or natural meats which are expensive and often prohibitively expensive; but what price do you put on your health? Many youngsters say “it won’t happen to me” and invariably they get older and it does happen to them, so is there an answer, YES.
All around the UK we have wild deer and they are natural meats and NOT farmed and as wild meat they are free from the problematic toxins and better for your health and many places have historical deer parks where the deer roam free and the country’s largest wild herd runs from North Yorkshire into mid Nottinghamshire and this herd is massive. All around the country land owners and local councils have deer culls and this is for good reason and that is to manage and control the deer population and the most humane way of controlling them is to shoot them and specifically with a heart and lung shot with a high powered hunting rifle which is considered humane and causes a quick death as opposed to a long and lingering death, so why do they cull the deer?
Deer overpopulation destroys farmers crops and this can cause farmers to become bankrupt from low crop yields and they often destroy trees and other flora and fauna in woods and forests, they can trash hedges and gates and the larger the number, the larger the amount of animals there are competing for the same quantity of food and wild deer’s weights are dropping massively to the point many are dying of starvation, hence a necessity to control them for everyone’s benefit and not just their own.

Most of the carcasses are sold off to local butchers where they are butchered and sold off for high prices and only the butchers benefit financially and while the butcher gets the meat cheaply, they still sell it for a huge premium and my question is why? The land owners and councils still have to have a cull and pay for it; so that is a fixed expenditure, so why sell the meat off cheaply and let someone else make all the profits.
If councils are public employees they could take the meat and distribute it among their own companies such as care homes they run or even hospitals as an average adult deer weighs around 100Kg it equates to a lot of meat and healthier meat and people in hospitals and care homes could often do with a reduction on bodily toxin levels. If you run 10 care homes and you provide each with 100Kg a year of venison its 100Kg of meat they don’t spend money on and it is the saving which pays dividends as you aren’t spending it so don’t need it and everyone benefits.

This could be taken further and if an area is deprived and has a lot of food banks the same councils can donate some to a food bank and it can be fully used and not wasted, and used to feed those most averse to food toxins and the poorest in society and improve their health and save again by lowering their risk of strokes and heart attacks and diabetes and save the NHS money in the longer term and again this means they need less taxpayer funding to run them, so again a win win for everyone.

Why venison? Because it is venison and the fact it is wild meat and not farmed meat means it will predominantly be toxin free and totally free of the problematic chemicals which affect so many people in later life.
There are other meats such as rabbits or hares and once again they are predominantly toxin free and most people think pheasants are but most pheasants are reared solely for the gun and fed on toxin filled feeds to fatten them which makes them easier to see and slower making them easier to shoot, so only go for wild pheasants and not reared pheasants.
