Please help as a little out of my depth think I can use 3 letter process

I have a debt from around 5 years ago with Tesco credit cards, which for some years now I have been paying £1 a month to Tesco on an agreed arrangement. Today I receive a letter from Intrum telling me that as of the 17/1/19 they are now the legal owner of the debt and to make contact with them to make payment. They have the balance from 10/18 on file and have said Tesco will pass any payments made to them since over to Intrum, which will be around 3 months of the £1.

I have today cancelled the £1 standing order to Tesco, and have made no contact or reply to Intrum who have today sent me an email also.

Please can you help me, is the three letter process something that is allowed on this debt, and is it just a shot in the dark etc, I am terrified that bailiffs will come to my door, have health issues which are exacerbated by stress and really unsure if it is the right thing to do, obviously I can no afford to pay the debt and have been paying the £1 as that is pretty much what I can manage. The amount is just under £6600.

You could start the 3 letter template system for debt purchasers (Intrum in this case) - not the 3 letters for DCAs (minions who collect on behalf of debt purchasers).

HOWEVER the statute barred date will be 6 years after your last payment of £1. Also your credit file will go down such that it will be very hard to get credit for 6 years. Just something to consider.

(I’ve been following the system for some years but was happy knowing that, going forward, I would rely on purely income from work / savings.)

Also, you’ll find (should you follow the system) that they won’t have the documentation (evidence...) requested for in the letters and will instead deploy a DCA on their behalf. Then guess what? You then use the DCA templates and on goes the merry go round... You’ll most likely also get long gaps in between engagements of DCAs or the Debt Purchasers (Intrum) will sell on and so on...

Just keep EVERY ONE of their letters and yours and always post via Royal Mail Signed For remembering to keep the tracking receipts and taking a copy of their ‘signature’ from the Royal Mail website each time.

Hi LynnB, welcome.

Start with the 3 letters in the link below.

1. Dont panic ,this could take months or even longer.
2 Its stated in the letters that they must contact you only via Royal Mail,they usually abide by this
however if they do not ,remind them you will ignore all other contacts .
3 A lot of what is requested in the letters will be ignored by them . These are the things they cannot
or will not answer .Push for them.
4 Watch the video below to get a full understanding of how the fraud works
5 Keep and file all paperwork & only contact them via recorded mail & keep the receipts & print off
the proof of delivery in your files.

Also IF you feel the need to upload any letters you receive from the DPs / DCAs to this forum (there is v rarely a need to do so - as Dave says, they cannot or will not answer/supply) then make sure you mask/hide any personal data, references, letter dates and sums etc. Maybe even mask the name of the debt purchaser / DCA. The more discreet you are, the less any potential trolls (DPs/DCAs) will be able to work out who you are...
