'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Hi all
Might it be useful to have such? i've noticed that not every new member is articulate in defining their problem, and a lot of time can be spent just trying to work out what they need, which is obviously frustrating for all parties.
If there was a standard list of questions set up, perhaps we could negate this? If the questionnaires were then kept all in one place a noob could check them, see which ones match their own predicament and read the outcome - they may be able to work from that, saving a lot of time for contributors here.
What do you think?
Cheers!

I think its a very good idea too.
How would iamani feel about drafting one up as a template, from then collectively we can take a look and see if there is anything that might be worth adding or adjusting?

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Hi guys
Thanks for the approval. Happy to get the ball rolling by suggesting a few questions, but it's you experts who have a better idea what exactly to ask. My questions will probably be too broad.
i'll get cracking then.

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Hey,
Its a good idea.
However, I am not sure that pre-determined questions would accurately reflect the broad reasons why people (general context) visit here.
I am also not sure that it wouldn't end up having the opposite to the desired effect of efficiency. Whilst I am a fan of efficiency it is also nice to connect with people (general context) on a meeting of minds basis so that potential options and avenues can be explored. If people (general context) are posting issues based upon a pre-determined questionnaire A, B, C, D. Then what happens to those who fall into other issues?.
I guess, we could try to think of every eventuality and put it in a questionnaire but then all we have done is transfer our desire for efficiency into a time sink for the visitor.
Perhaps there is a balance to be made by having a small list of things that a person (general context) could (not should) include with their first post such as,
Debt type (loan, cc etc etc)
Last payment date
Original creditor/s (name)
Debt collection agency/ies (name)
Debt amount (total or different amounts)
etc
etc
This would just take up one post in the sticky section to suggest an approach that can be helpful to asking a question, instead of a potentially unlimited number of questionnaires.
This is just my thoughts on it.

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Hi actinglikeabanker
Thanks, good points, and the questions you have suggested are apt for the purpose and fit exactly with what i was thinking. It doesn't have to be (indeed shouldn't be) long, and it should be optional. If people have problems communicating their issues, or if they're in a hurry for answers it's an option.
Perhaps even expandable - if it proves useful.
Cheers!

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Some good points for us to consider, Personally I think what Iamani said is very viable, that there could be challenges in communication conveying the correct info and as a guide for people wanting help to voice there problems in a structured way, are good fundamentals for this idea. If there are minor nuisances as we go along then we can fix them if needed.
We are looking forward to your template iamani

we could sticky it in new members or i could set up an auto welcome message ,or both.
Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Hi all
i think - at least initially - that we should go with A.L.A.B.'s suggestion, by virtue of its simplicity. As Waffle says, we can tinker to our hearts' content once we can appraise it's effect.
i also think Lopsum should introduce himself as the host at the same time - if only so they know whom not to p!ss off in the first instance! And who to thank for setting it up. Anyways, first draft:
Welcome to the site, glad you made it. There are friendly and knowledgeable contributors here who would like to help you.
It may help us to help you if in your first post you could include some specific details of your problem, such as:
1) Type of debt (eg loan, credit card, mortgage, council tax etc).
2) Name of O.C. (Original Creditor - who you borrowed from).
3) Name of the D.C.A. (Debt Collection Agency - who's threatening you).
4) Approx. amount of debt (please DON'T be specific!)
5) Date of last payment (not too specific, to the month is good).
6) Is the debt from pre-2007 ?
7) Are 'they' after your property?
Have court proceedings began?
. ..and any other relevant details you can think of.
Please remember to show a little respect to the members, and that our only guarantee is we will help you - if we can. All we ask in return is that you let us know how it turns out - your feedback could make all the difference to someone else. Pay it forward, please...
Well, that's the basics. Plenty of room for improvement i'm sure, please feel free to opine.
Shall we go belt-and-braces - sticky AND auto? Makes sure people can see it at least...
Cheers!

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
On reflection, the questions are to specific. It would not take much cross referencing to identify a person (general context) seeking other options or avenues here to their account being contended.
I do not feel it is fair to ask or suggest visitors should be too specific about their issue/s.
This is not to say a small un-identifiable by cross reference details could be helpful to offer experience but, we should not unintentionally compromise anyone in their search for options.

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Hi ,
I think iamani's questionnaire is asking the right questions ,but ALAB's concerns are very valid,I would suggest
maybe some sort of tick box - how much is the alleged debt for- up to £500 / £ 500 - £ 1500 you know that sort of thing, Is a DCA involved ? yes/no.
I would also like to see mentioned how important feed back is.

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
I might also ask
Is it pre or post 2007
Have the DCA's had a full assignment or are they acting as agent
Are there any court proceedings arranged

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
I might be on the wrong track here but perhaps the GOODF E Book might be a good source of info for a 'Checklist for posting about debts for Newcomers"
Perhaps a 'checklist' might a series of bullet points and one or two sentences of expansion.

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Hi all
I have been thinking about a members position and our position in relation to to the questions.
What we and the members using this tool could be concerned about is the privacy of that data. Its no secret that organisations follow the work on these sites and even go as far as following specific individual.
Bearing this in mind if we could create this tool but word it in a way where they are disclosing enough information to enable us to help them, but not enough for them to be identified or give up information that could be a detriment to their cause.
For example, perhaps we could ask if the debt is secure or unsecure, instead of do they own property, and instead of needing to know specifically which company they are dealing with perhaps we could ask is it a bank, DCA, credit card company or other lender. Generally all banks are governed by the same rules, all DCA's are governed by the same rules, all credit card companies are governed by the same rules.
If they later choose to discuss the particular firms thats up to them, but perhaps we ought to be conscious of what data they do disclose, for their best interests.
Its an awesome idea and should be a very useful tool for those who choose to use it, if we can devise it in a way that retains their privacy, but opens up just enough for us to help them directly and promptly it would prevent any detrimental information getting into the wrong hands.........

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Hi guys
Waffle - that makes sense. We certainly don't want to have a detrimental effect on people looking for help, or to be aiding the sharks.
i can edit the original to incorporate most of the new suggestions later today, but everyone should feel free to edit it as we go - i'm not going to be 'precious' about it!
Cheers!

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Hi guys
OK, so i sat down to do second draft and it occurred to me that the info we are worried about asking for is all info that most put in their requests for help, and if they don't - we ask them for it..... We could end up chasing our tails, fellas.
So i'll re-draft to incorporate just one or two of the suggestions above while we have another think, if that's OK?
Cheers!

Re: 'Help needed' standardised questionnaire
Could we also add about what a Deed of Assignment must contain. We need to have what makes a Deed of Assignment legal and how a Deed is created. Also what will make a Deed illegal. Since companies are selling off their bad debts to dcas as are Banks. We need to know if companies have made a mistake if we were given a true copy of a DoA.
