Police inspectorate says ban would help combat county lines drug operations...which translates as 'bullsh*t', this is just the excuse drafted out to further escalate the surveillance state.

NOTE: To useful idiots who monitor sites such as these - domestic terrorists (the police)....we are not all stupid & gullable & you don't like that do you!

I thought that it was Blackberry phones that the police did not like as these devices encrypt there messages. That was the reason the police were giving during the last riot's. Still it sounds like a very poor idea as all that the county line gangs will do is to obtain their sim cards from abroad and also have them topped up abroad. Smile . Strategic thinking and planning is way beyond the police.

No, thats only the excuse they are using .The state cannot allow anyone to be anonymous, otherwise
they will not get their police state which is their next goal.

Its also another way of getting people onto monthly contracts which means companies profit.

Will it stop it? no, many of these phones are bought in from abroad as unlocked phones and will accept any SIM card so like booze and fags it will create another black market for smuggled phones complete with SIM cards from European countries with free roaming around Europe.

If my memory serves me, you might also remember that a few months or weeks after that announcement there was a spate of 'phone blackouts' that caused the service to go down?
In my view this was to install new hardware and software onto the blackberry's that enabled deciphering of encrypted messages. We weren't told this of course and there was nothing to see...move along....move along!

Hi Tom, I don't recall the phone blackouts, but I would not be surprised by that. The fact is that the police clearly wish to know who, what, when and how about anything and that means full control of everything and everybody no matter who. I'm not sure if it's a government thing or if it's a police thing or if it's both, but it is clearly evident. I find it very hard not to laugh my ar*e off when I see reports on the news that our gang of police are in another country where abuses have been taking place so that they can train the police in that country and to teach them all about policing properly without the abuse. You just couldn't make that up and on top of that it's all funded by us mugs. Very Happy
