abuse by post office staff member
Hi
need some advice not to sure if this is the right section, my wife and my self went to the post office to send some parcels away, i stayed outside, my wife was at the counter and one of the parcels the girl behind the counter did not understand the post code, my wife said my husband wrote them out is it ok to get him,the girl said yes, so my wife opened the door and called me in stating the girl did not understand the post code,
as i went in the person who works behind the sweet counter started screaming at me,i did not understand him at first , so i said i have my mask on, thinking he was shouting to put it on ,but he still was screaming at me, again i said i have my mask on, he then charged out behind his counter and came at me his finger pointing at me right in my face, telling me to get out,
the man behind me in the queue who had a parcel, said to the lad who was still screaming. you have it wrong he was asked to come in by the girl behind the counter, then the penny dropped with me, and then i pointed it out, but he would not stop, a number of times people in the queue was trying to tell him but would not listen, he still screaming to get out pointing his finger in my face ,
the girl behind the counter said nothing and the manager who was behind the counter said nothing, in the end i shouted at the manager to to tell him to stop, he did, then he just went back to his counter, after we finished at the counter i was very shaken as was my wife, i thought he was going to grab me, we started to go out and i said to the lad i would like a apology for his actions, as he was clearly in the wrong, he stood their smiling, saying i dont do that,
at that point the person who had the parcel stood next to me and said in my defence you were very wrong, he just was grinning, the manager came out and the lad spoke to him ,he came over i asked him for a apology again the lad next to me backed me up,but the manager did not care, in my opinion the manager could have stopped it from the word go, but chose to ignore it, but the manager said we were fined last week for people not wearing the masks, I had mine on,i go in their a couple of times a weeks been going their for years,
i am 63 and my wife is 60 ,it was very shocking and intimidating, not tomention intimidating the way he charged at me i thought he was going to harm me,, is their any thing legal i can do,many thanks

Re: abuse by post office staff member
Hi, is it a chain or single outlet containing a PO?
Do you have any evidence or is anyone
prepared to give a statement ?
You could also try to get any cctv recording,I believe if it contains your
image you are entitled to it.
The next time you go there take a camera and record everything.

Do a SAR anyway and see what comes back.
Report them to the Post Office and make this an official complaint to the Area Manager and the owners of the shop. Make it clear that their behaviour was threatening and intimidating and under Sec 5 they could report this to the Police as a criminal offence and let them prosecute him or, you could bring a private prosecution against the member of staff.

Re: abuse by post office staff member
It may not be necessary to jump straight in with a court claim, having just
watched a video from the US. Here is an idea;
contact the shop owners and also the Post office and tell them you require
to be compensated for the intimidation and threating behaviour towards
yourself for which you suffered stress and humiliation.
Head the letter Notice of intention to sue and invite them for a response
before you proceed .
Its possible they will offer a settlement as they will not want the expence or
hassel of defending a court claim.
What was the reason for his outburst ? Thats important because if its covered
by the Equalities Act 2010 the compensation starts at £ 900 to a max of £9K
Bear that figure in mind if / when they offer a settlement. I would reject their
first offer as it will not be their best.

Hi at first i did not know what was the reason was,i thought it was a face mask, but i had mine on, and i told him that ,he did not have a mask on, but the lad behind me in the queue said to him the girl behind the counter asked me to come in to tell her the post code on the parcel that was being posted, so i assume he thoight i jumped the queue, but he was informed twice by the people in the queue i was asked to come to the counter with my wife, the girl behind the counter did not speak up and the manager who was next to her did not speak up, why i dont know. when i did speak to the manager while asking for a apology he just looked at me confused, and started talking about a fine they got for not wearing masks, look forward to your reply, many thanks

Re: abuse by post office staff member
Before you contact the shop owner requiring them to compensate you write to them and ask them for an explanation as to the staff members actions and his conduct towards you. If they reply to you you will then have something in writing which you may be able to build on. Never assume anything. Allow them the opportunity to dig their hole. If they do not reply to you then write to them and require them to compensate you as stated. Also if there is any CCTV in the shop then make a subject access request for the CCTV footage as this will add to the pressure on them and it may also show who was present during this incident.

I agree with midnight. I would do the SAR sooner rather than later
as they may only retain recordings for a limited time.
Ask for the cctv recording under the GDPA Act ,if you are not to sure of
the time of the incident request it an hour either side of the time.

Sorry they are even claiming it has nothing to do with the post office as the post office in question is only a agency worker?

Not sure if this will be of any help to you:
https://www.complaintsdepartment.co.uk/post-office-uk/
Go down the page and read the 38 comment first to see what you are up against.
You could ask which agency this staff member worked for and then make a complaint to that agency.
