I'm in (aleged) debt to a Utility Company

My utility company has now passed on what I (allegedly)owe them to a DCA. How should I deal with it? I have done the 3 letter process for credit cards but how do I approach the problem of the utility companies and DCA. Help appreciated!

I was on a fixed monthlty contract then just before the contract ends they slap me with a £1200 bill. They kept on sending me bills to pay and ignored them and so they passed it on to a DCA. Now what?

OK from what I have done & seen others do you basically have 3 choices (other readers may suggest differently).

1. Ignore everything – BAD idea this WILL land you in court & financially done over!
2. Enter a pay plan of some sort – again other readers may advise on what to do there.
3. Pay by endorsement – this is what I have done almost a year back.

It appears, from what i'm reading here, particularly from LionShare's very helpful post, that the eradication of 'personal' utility debt accounts is almost impossible?

One thing that may help; is that contained within the utility supply contracts the govt have with the utility supplier, is a requirement that they "provide the utility to all consumers and or customers." whatever phrase they use.

If you can find such a clause in their contracts with the govt, then you could argue that if they cut your service off, then they are or will be in breach of their contract with the govt.

Letting them know this information is an exercise of power in itself.

Knowledge is power, knowledge intimidates.

They wont voluntary give you a copy of the contract so it will have to be obtained under disclosure when a case goes to court.
