Ok water company emailed back after other of payment plan, saying they cant do a payment plan as its with the debt collectors now and should go to them.
Where do we go from here?

Hi cookiemonster2, from my experience & others may have differing views, write to the dca when they start & state you will ONLY deal with the water Co being they are the "OC" & the alledged debt is with water Co NOT the dca.

If they persist that you must deal with them state again you will ONLY deal with water Co, as you have NO contract & never had with the dca, you will not deal with 3rd party interlopers.

cookiemonster2, has the alledged debt been given to dca to collect or has it been sold?

As others have had more experience dealing with these tw*ts than me, would others please advise accordingly.

I agree with LS, I will never deal with debt collectors acting as agents .The only time I ever respond to them
is to inform them that under no circumstances will I engage with them further.

Is this also your approach with Debt Collection Agencies (DCAs) working on behalf of debt purchasers (ie not DCAs collecting on behalf of original creditors or utility companies, as is the case in this thread)?

Hi mr Blue,
That is generally my response to debt collectors ,with the exception of those collecting for the likes of
credit cards etc. Where I use the 3 letter approach as I like to show that I have asked for documentation
as many times as possible, as it then shows their failure to comply.

So where DCAs are collecting for DPs who have bought alleged debts in the form of loans and CCs, you would use the 3 letters for DCAs?
